It is important to distinguish between fatigue, which means tiredness without the tendency to suddenly fall asleep, and daytime sleepiness, which reflects the tendency to doze off during monotonous situations very easily. The ESS helps you and your physician to evaluate the level of your daytime sleepiness. A total score higher than 10 points indicates excessive daytime sleepiness.
